Elon Musk has been US citizen since 2002

A viral claim circulating on Threads suggesting Tesla CEO Elon Musk isn’t a U.S. citizen has been proven false. The post, which garnered over 1,000 likes, presents an image of Musk with text asserting he has “NO Place anywhere near our government.”
However, historical records paint a different picture. According to Esquire magazine’s November 2012 publication, Musk obtained his U.S. citizenship through a naturalization ceremony in 2002, joining approximately 3,500 other immigrants at California’s Pomona Fairplex. CNN later corroborated this information in September 2024, citing both the Esquire article and Walter Isaacson’s biography of Musk.
MSNBC is going up for sale.
Should I buy it?
I would like to fire Rachel Maddow (for fun) and then turn it into a channel that reports the top stories from X each day.

On X, Musk recently addressed related citizenship concerns raised by President Biden. “I was in fact allowed to work in the US. The Biden puppet is lying,” Musk stated. In a follow-up post, he clarified, “I was on a J-1 visa that transitioned to an H1-B. They know this, as they have all my records. Losing the election is making them desperate.”
Multiple fact-checking organizations have dismissed the citizenship claim. PolitiFact, The Dispatch, and USA Today have all published articles confirming Musk’s status as a U.S. citizen. When reached for comment about the viral claim, Musk had not yet responded.
Elon Musk: Citizen journalism is the future — The aggregate voice of the people gets to decide the narrative of what is newsworthy, not a handful of editors-in-chief.
