The Senate has confirmed Lee Zeldin as the new Environmental Protection Agency Administrator with a vote of 56-42. The confirmation saw support from all Republican senators and three Democrats, while 42 Democratic senators opposed the nomination, making Zeldin the seventh Cabinet member confirmed under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Following his confirmation, Zeldin expressed his enthusiasm on X, stating: “Honored to begin this exciting journey as the 17th EPA Administrator. Together, we will harness the greatness of American innovation with the greatness of American conservation and environmental stewardship. Time to get to work!”

Throughout his career, Zeldin has been a strong supporter of Trump’s environmental agenda, consistently backing policies aimed at reducing regulations and dismantling previous administration’s green energy initiatives.

Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who leads the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee, offered strong endorsement of Zeldin’s appointment. In her official statement, she remarked: “Today, the Senate has confirmed an EPA administrator who is well-qualified and capable of returning the EPA to its core missions of protecting our land, air, and water, without inhibiting economic development. Congressman Zeldin will lead the EPA as the agency addresses the environmental needs of our country, and he is committed to properly implementing the laws of Congress through collaboration with the members of our Committee.”

The West Virginia Senator further emphasized her confidence in Zeldin’s capabilities, stating: “I have been continually impressed by Congressman Zeldin’s character, and his dedication to our country through service in both the U.S. Army and Congress. I am confident he will perform the role of EPA administrator exceptionally well, and be a central member of President Trump’s Cabinet as they enact policies and solutions to the environment, infrastructure, and energy challenges of our time.”
