Biden Drops Out Of Presidential Race Despite SHUTTING DOWN Accusations For Weeks
US President Joe Biden made public on Sunday his decision to not run for reelection in November following a push from top Democrats and media figures who fear that he is too weak of a candidate to take on former President Donald Trump.
“I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden writes.
His embarrassing debate performance in June, which turned off even those who like Biden but fear he is no longer capable of handling the demands of his office were looking for Him to withdraw. It came after CNN reported that Biden was beginning to consider it, having previously dismissed the suggestion.
“He’s being receptive. Not as defiant as he is publicly,” a source told CNN. “He’s gone from saying, ‘Kamala can’t win,’ to ‘Do you think Kamala can win?’ It’s still unclear where he’s going to land but seems to be listening.”
The CNN report came after Biden told BET in an interview that he would consider stepping aside if diagnosed with a “medical condition.” Biden tested positive for COVID-19 right after the exit interview, and was forced to suspend his public appearances.
In the weeks since the debate, top Democrats have been calling for Biden to withdraw both publicly and privately.
When asked in an interview about dropping out, Biden said, “I mean, if the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get outta the race,’ I’d get outta the race. The Lord Almighty’s not comin’ down.”
The White House confirmed earlier this month that Biden had been checked out by a Parkinson’s disease specialist as part of his annual physical exam after multiple doctors with no direct knowledge of the situation repeatedly speculated in public comments about whether he might have the illness.
However, Biden has made many errors in public speeches since the debate. Those mistakes have caused people to raise questions about his cognitive abilities.
Now that Biden has officially withdrawn his bid for reelection, he has fully endorsed Vice President Harris to take his spot.
