California Representative Withdrawals Support For President Biden’s Reelection – NOMINATION DELAYED
In an interview released on Wednesday, Joe Biden said that he would consider dropping out of the presidential race if he was to develop some kind of “medical condition.”
The 81-year old president, who has said he suffers no serious ailment to make him step down also faces pressure from his own party for withdrawing.
In an interview with Ed Gordon of BET News, Biden asked if there was anything that could convince him it had become the time to get out.
Biden then replied, “If I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, you got this problem and that problem.”
Interestingly, when answering a question from NDTV about the same debate, he conceded that he “made a serious mistake in the whole debate,” but didn’t explain further what his mistake was.
“I said I was going to be a transitional candidate, and I thought I would be able to move on from this and pass it on to somebody else,” he added. “But I didn’t anticipate things getting so, so, so divided. And quite frankly, I think the only thing age brings is a little bit of wisdom.”
Also on Wednesday, Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) called for Biden to cease his campaign. In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, he voiced skepticism about whether Biden could beat Trump.
“President Biden has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as a Senator, a Vice President, and now as President has made our country better,” Schiff told The Los Angeles Times. “But our nation is at a crossroads. A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
Although Schiff acknowledged the final decision is up to Biden, he hinted it was time for him “to pass the torch” and solidify his status as a leader of giving another Democrat an opportunity at defeating Trump.
“I will do everything I can to help them succeed,” Schiff said. “There is only one singular goal: defeating Donald Trump. The stakes are just too high.”
