Dad protects family, shoots burglar on Thanksgiving weekend

A Sacramento homeowner defended his family by shooting an intruder who attempted to break into their residence the day following Thanksgiving, at approximately 3:00 p.m.
The confrontation took place “in the 7200 block of Chandler Drive” in a residential neighborhood, according to Recordnet.com, where the homeowner discharged his weapon as the suspect was attempting to smash windows to gain entry.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office provided the following statement:
Just after 3 PM on Friday, November 29, 40-year-old Emelio Correa approached a home on the 7200 block of Chandler Drive and began breaking the windows to gain entry. The homeowner, who was home with his family, yelled at the intruder several times to stop. Still, Correa refused, continuing to try to break windows and get inside. The homeowner, fearing for his safety and that of his family, shot at Correa from inside the residence, striking Correa in the hand.

Despite sustaining a gunshot wound, Correa managed to escape to another property where he broke in and stole a vehicle.
Law enforcement officers initiated a prolonged pursuit, eventually deploying a PIT maneuver to halt Correa’s escape attempt, leading to his arrest.
The incident concluded with Correa facing numerous felony charges.
