Dark secrets revealed in RFK Jr. divorce papers

In newly discovered divorce court documents, Mary Richardson, the late wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., described him as a “sexual deviant” during their contentious separation proceedings.

The documents reveal a complex legal battle that began when Kennedy submitted a sealed 60-page affidavit in September 2011. His filing contained serious accusations against Richardson, including claims of violent behavior, physical abuse, and allegations that she deliberately ran over their family dog, Porcia. Kennedy also claimed Richardson had threatened suicide in front of their children and struggled with alcohol abuse.

Richardson crafted a detailed response the following March, though it was never officially filed. In her draft rebuttal, she portrayed Kennedy as an inadequate parent who was waging a “scorched earth” campaign against her. She accused him of concealing multiple affairs and labeled him both a “sexual deviant” and sex addict, citing evidence from text messages and photographs found on his phone.

The document included allegations that Kennedy, known for his anti-vaccine stance and previous heroin addiction spanning over a decade, had physically abused her and improperly used prescription medications. While Richardson acknowledged certain personal shortcomings, including one incident where she struck Kennedy in anger, she firmly denied his allegations about suicidal threats in front of their children.

“I have witnessed Bobby’s obsessive-compulsive need to not only beat but also annihilate someone he perceives as an adversary,” Richardson wrote. “He is also well known for his passionate, entertaining speech-making, hyperbole and total exaggeration.” She added, “He re-jiggers the facts, or makes them up, and rushes to tell as many people as he can so that is the version of reality that gets distributed in people’s minds — classic gaslighting.”

Richardson accused Kennedy of cultivating a false public image of family perfection and stated, “I have carried the burden of Bobby and his family’s most intimate secrets since I was 15.” Tragically, Richardson never submitted her rebuttal and died by suicide in her New York residence two months later at age 52.

The couple’s marriage, which began in April 1994, produced four children: Conor, Kyra, William “Finn,” and Aidan Kennedy. Their divorce proceedings started in May 2010 and concluded with Richardson’s death in May 2014. Kennedy, who has two other children – Robert “Bobby” Kennedy III and Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy – from his marriage to Emily Ruth Black, later married actress Cheryl Hines in August 2014.

Kennedy’s representatives did not provide an immediate response when contacted for comment.
