D.C. mayor Bowser seeks meeting with Trump amidst rising crime concerns in the nation’s capital. According to a recent WalletHub study, Washington D.C. currently sits near the bottom of American cities for safety, ranking 172nd out of 182 cities analyzed.
The situation has deteriorated since Trump’s departure from office, with carjacking incidents showing a marked increase compared to his presidential term. The city’s 2023 decision to reduce police funding by 1.7 percent, coupled with U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves’s choice not to prosecute over half of arrests, has contributed to safety concerns affecting federal workers and officials.

Trump previously expressed his concerns on Truth Social, stating “Washington(D.C.) has become a dirty, crime ridden death trap, that must be taken over and properly run by the Federal Government. It is, and will be, part of my Election Platform. We will clean it, renovate and rebuild it – and, most importantly, MAKE IT SAFE.”
Bowser’s team has attempted to arrange a meeting with Trump during his scheduled Wednesday visit to Capitol Hill and the White House. The mayor emphasized her commitment to cooperation, saying, “I want to make clear that Washington, D.C., is prepared to welcome the new administration, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth and collaborative transition.”

She further expressed her desire for partnership, noting, “We need partners that help return the vibrancy of downtown Washington and what I like to call — my staff doesn’t like it when I say this — the majesty of the federal government.”
The situation presents an opportunity for significant change under Trump’s leadership. As Breitbart News senior legal contributor Ken Klukowski noted, “D.C. is not a state and should not be treated like one. As President Trump takes office with Republican majorities in Congress, this would be an ideal time to rein in Washington’s excesses by amending the Home Rule Act and bring that dysfunctional city back under presidential and congressional supervision.”
