Fake video spreads false news about $1,000 checks

A misleading Facebook video has sparked confusion by falsely claiming Americans will receive a new $1,000 stimulus payment starting November 2024.
The viral content, which has garnered over 1,000 likes, features manipulated footage beginning with a CBS News segment with Norah O’Donnell, followed by campaign images of Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Through a computerized voice, the video declares that a stimulus package has been rushed through due to rising credit card debt levels, claiming all U.S. residents qualify without exception for an immediate $1,000 payment.
Analysis from TrueMedia.org reveals significant manipulation in the video’s content. The original CBS News segment, which aired in June 2023 before Trump’s election victory, discussed credit card debt but made no mention of any new stimulus payment.
Meanwhile, discussions between Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who lead Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, have focused on developing a free tax filing app, according to The Washington Post, though specific plans remain uncertain.
