False Claims About AOC’s Grandmother’s Social Security Money

A recent Facebook post has made false allegations against Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, claiming that she and her family continued to receive her deceased grandmother’s Social Security checks for over a decade.

The social media post, which features an image of the Democratic congresswoman, suggests that Ocasio-Cortez and her relatives “overlooked” monthly Social Security deposits of $3,400 for approximately fourteen and a half years. This claim emerged while the representative was participating in the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour in Las Vegas alongside Senator Bernie Sanders, where they were addressing working-class voter concerns.

Further investigation reveals that the accusation originated from “The Dunning-Kruger Times,” a website that explicitly identifies itself as part of the “America’s Last Line of Defense” network, which produces satirical content and parody materials.

The allegations lack any substantiation from credible sources. No press releases or social media statements have been issued by Ocasio-Cortez addressing these claims, and the Social Security Administration has remained silent on the matter. Given the representative’s high profile, such a significant oversight would have attracted widespread media attention, yet no legitimate news organizations have reported on this supposed incident.

Multiple fact-checking organizations, including Snopes and Lead Stories, have thoroughly examined and dismissed these claims, tracing them back to the same satirical article. A request for comment has been sent to Representative Ocasio-Cortez’s office regarding these false allegations.
