Former Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Proposes New Idea To Beat The Left
Entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy believes the Right is misdirecting its efforts in attacking Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, and should instead focus on the broader system behind her.
During an appearance on The Ben Shapiro Show’s Sunday Special, Ramaswamy urged conservatives to shift away from attacking Harris’ personal political views and refocus their criticism on the larger Democratic establishment.
“We’re not running against a candidate, we’re running against a system,” Ramaswamy told Shapiro.
Shapiro further elaborated on the idea, commenting, “They literally just photoshopped the presidential candidate. I mean, they took the president, they made sure that no one challenged him the whole way through. He then was put in place as the nominee, and then as soon as he had a bad debate, they ousted him in favor of Kamala Harris.”
Harris was positioned as the Democratic nominee just 48 hours after President Joe Biden exited the race, despite not winning a single primary vote. According to Ramaswamy, the pivotal debate that led to Biden’s exit seemed scheduled in such a way that it allowed Democrats to switch candidates if needed.
Shapiro pointed out that attacking Harris personally could be a strategic error. “And the point that you’ve made is that it would be a mistake to try and delve into Kamala Harris’ personal philosophy, because this isn’t about that.”
Ramaswamy agreed, cautioning against labeling Harris as an extreme ideologue. “I do think that’s a trap we risk falling into right now. I don’t think that the right attack against Kamala Harris is that she’s a communist or a Marxist.”
While acknowledging her left-leaning political track record, Ramaswamy added that calling Harris an ideologue “gives her too much credit.”
“I don’t think she actually is,” he said. “And if you level a critique that misses the point by half, I don’t think it lands on the public in the same way, because her policies are now shifted. She’s now running as some sort of faux centrist, selectively embracing free market policies, even though she doesn’t know, at times, even what they may be.”
He emphasized, “I think it misses the point to call her a socialist or Marxist. I think she is another cog in a machine. We’re not running against a candidate, we’re running against a system.”
Ramaswamy believes that the Right’s focus on personal attacks against Biden has, in fact, bolstered Harris’ standing by positioning her as a sort of rescuer.
“It’s actually legitimized Kamala Harris,” Ramaswamy argued. “It created a dynamic where whoever was going to rescue the Democrats and independents in this country from Joe Biden — it’s the feeling that a tortured prisoner has towards their hero who releases them from captivity, whoever it is, you’re going to love that and fall in love with that person.”
Ramaswamy concluded that a more effective line of attack would have been targeting not just the Democratic Party, but the “deeper managerial class” that operates behind the scenes.
“Kamala Harris benefited from that as opposed to really offering an indictment of the Democratic machine, and not even the Democratic machine, but the deeper managerial class in our country,” he said. “That would have been, I think, a more spot-on criticism.”
