Harris To Take On Trump In LESS THAN ONE MONTH On ABC News – Debate In Harris’ Favor
It’s confirmed that ABC News will be hosting the first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10, 2024 in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia remains a Democratic stronghold. 81% of Philadelphia County residents voted for President Joe Biden while only 18% backed Trump in 2020. In 2016, the city voted for Hillary Clinton by a margin of 82% to Trump’s mere 15%.
Philadelphia, the sixth largest city in the entire country with a population of over 1.5 million people, has not had a Republican mayor since 1947.
Originally, Muir and Linsey Davis were tapped to moderate a debate between Trump and Joe Biden, but they will now moderate this one featuring the President with Harris. This will be the first general election debate moderated by Muir and Davis.
Philadelphia is no stranger to major Democratic events. The city is where Harris decided to do her first rally with running mate Tim Walz and it remains the spot that helped launch Biden’s 2020 campaign for president.
The locale was also where Biden delivered his 2022 “Battle for the Soul of the Nation” speech, branding Trump and those who back him as “enemies of the constitution.”
ABC News has not yet confirmed whether an audience will be allowed in the debate.
Trump also mentioned that he wanted more debates, including one on Fox News, but Harris turned down both offers, saying she would agree to the ABC debate and might do a follow-on October event.
“The debate about debates is over,” the Harris campaign said on Thursday. “Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates – two presidential and a vice presidential debate. Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October.”
In a press conference he held recently at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said that he was actually looking forward to the debates.
“She hasn’t done an interview. She can’t do an interview,” he said.
