Kamala Harris’ 2019 Campaign Policies RESURFACE – Even CNN Finds Them SHOCKING
CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski has shed light on Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2019 policy positions through a recently uncovered questionnaire she completed for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) during her presidential campaign. The responses reveal a notably progressive stance on several issues, positioning her to the left of her Democratic rivals, including Bernie Sanders.
Kaczynski shared his findings on CNN with host Erin Burnett, describing the questionnaire as a significant snapshot of Harris’ 2019 campaign approach. “This was a questionnaire that she filled out for the ACLU, and this questionnaire is really an interesting snapshot in time of that 2019 Democratic primary,” Kaczynski said. “Kamala Harris was trying to get to the left of Bernie Sanders. She was trying to get to the left of Elizabeth Warren and you really see that in a lot of these answers.”
Among the positions Harris articulated were plans to reduce funding for ICE, end immigrant detention, and support gender transition surgeries for federal prisoners and undocumented immigrants. “She said on immigration, she made this open-ended pledge to end immigrant detention,” Kaczynski noted. “She also supported it for federal prisoners. … She also pledged to slash immigration detention by 50 percent, close all family and private facilities, and decrease funding for ICE, and then end ICE detainers with local law enforcement.”
Harris’s responses also addressed drug policy. The form shows that she viewed gender-transition “treatment as a medical necessity” and vowed to ensure federal agencies provide such treatment. When asked about drug decriminalization, Harris answered affirmatively, stating, “Yes,” to the ACLU’s question on supporting the federal decriminalization of all drug possession for personal use. “Now, what would that mean? Will it mean the federal — all drug possession that’s not just marijuana, which she alluded to in her answer to this question, but it also would mean fentanyl, crack, you know, cocaine,” Kaczynski explained.
In response to CNN’s inquiry, a Harris campaign adviser mentioned that “the vice president’s positions have been shaped by three years of effective governance as part of the Biden/Harris administration.” However, the campaign did not provide further details on her current stance. The ACLU has indicated it will not request a new questionnaire from Harris for the 2024 election.
