Kamala Harris CAUGHT LYING About US Military Status After Fact Check
In a heated exchange during the presidential debate on September 10, 2024, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris made a controversial claim about the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of military deployments. Harris stated, “As of today, there is not one member of the United States Military who is in active duty in a combat zone, in any war zone around the world, for the first time this century.”
This assertion was not immediately challenged by the ABC moderators, who have faced criticism for perceived bias. However, active U.S. military members quickly addressed the claim. A video capturing military personnel watching the debate reveals their disbelief, with one member turning the camera on himself and his colleagues, exclaiming, “So where the f*** are we, right now?”
The video has since gone viral, with the caption, “full of lies,” highlighting the discrepancy between Harris’ statement and the reality on the ground.
Contrary to Harris’ claim, tens of thousands of U.S. military personnel are currently deployed in combat zones. The Department of Defense reports approximately 2,500 troops in Iraq and around 900 in Syria combating Islamic State militants. Additionally, a Reuters report from February notes that around 30,000 U.S. troops are stationed across the Middle East, with many additional forces deployed since the outbreak of conflict in the Gaza Strip, a situation that has developed during Harris and President Joe Biden’s administration.
Harris’ statement also seems to overlook the sacrifices of service members who have been killed or injured during her tenure. In January, three Army Reserve soldiers were killed in Jordan in a drone attack by an Iran-backed militia, with over 30 others injured, as reported by The New York Times. Subsequent attacks in Syria and a mission-related incident involving U.S. Navy SEALS further underscore ongoing risks to military personnel.
Families of injured service members have expressed strong criticism of Harris’ remarks. Brad Illerbrunner, whose son was seriously injured in Iraq in December, described Harris’ comments as a personal affront, telling the New York Post, “She doesn’t even recognize that our own troops are getting hurt.” He added, “We’re still in war zones,” accusing the Vice President of attempting to mislead the public.
