The war of words between White House trade adviser Peter Navarro and Tesla CEO Elon Musk intensified this week, with both individuals exchanging increasingly pointed remarks about each other.
During a Tuesday press briefing, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the significance of the public dispute, characterizing it as an example of the administration’s commitment to transparency.
PETER NAVARRO ON ELON MUSK:
“We all understand in the White House (and the American people understand) that Elon's a car manufacturer. But he's not a car manufacturer — He's a car assembler.

The heated exchange, primarily centered around disagreements over President Donald Trump’s trade policies and tariff strategies, reached a new level when Musk publicly criticized Navarro, calling him a “moron” and comparing his intelligence unfavorably to “a sack of bricks.”
Leavitt dismissed the confrontation with a casual “Boys will be boys, and we will let their public sparring continue.”

She further minimized the situation by explaining, “Look, these are obviously two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs.”
The press secretary went on to frame the discord in a positive light, suggesting it demonstrated the administration’s openness to diverse perspectives. She emphasized that the president’s willingness to maintain advisers with conflicting viewpoints at senior government levels reflected a commitment to considering various approaches to complex issues.
