Nicole Kidman opened up about the poignant final conversation with her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away in September, sharing insights during her appearance on “CBS Sunday Morning.”
“The final words my mama said, which I didn’t know were gonna be the final words … I was going to get on a plane and go back to see her,” she recalled on “CBS Sunday Morning.”

“And she was like, ‘Maybe wait a minute because I think you just need to take care of yourself right now, Nicky,'” the “Perfect Couple” actress, 57, added.
“So, I’m doing that more. And I say that to other people in the world, and particularly women. I think we tend not to take care of ourselves.”
The acclaimed actress reflected on how she’s incorporating her mother’s wisdom into her own parenting journey. As a mother to four children – Isabella and Connor from her marriage to Tom Cruise, and Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret with current husband Keith Urban – Kidman emphasizes the importance of self-care.
Speaking about her younger daughters, the actress expressed her desire for longevity, acknowledging her status as an older mother. She emphasized how maintaining her own well-being directly benefits her children’s futures.
The news of Janelle’s passing at age 84 reached Kidman during the Venice Film Festival, prompting her immediate departure. Through “Babygirl” director Halina Reijn, she shared a heartfelt statement: “Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed. I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me and she made me.”

Her statement continued, “I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heart-breaking, and my heart is broken.”
Making her first public appearance following her loss at the Balenciaga fashion show during Paris Fashion Week, Kidman later expressed her ongoing grief at the “Lioness” Season 2 premiere. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, she acknowledged her struggle, saying, “It’s been hard. It’s a hard road. I’m hanging in there.”
The actress concluded with a touching sentiment: “I wish my mama was here. That’d be the one thing I’d say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here.”
