Oath Keepers speak out after prison, face censorship

Listen To Story Above

Kenneth Harrelson, a former Army Sergeant and Florida Oath Keeper, found himself behind bars in March 2021 for his alleged involvement in the January 6 events. As a fellow inmate in the DC Gulag, I had the opportunity to meet and befriend Ken, witnessing firsthand the violation of his civil rights.

During our shared confinement, I learned about Ken’s codefendants, Kelly Meggs and Jessica Watkins, who were also residents of the Gulag. Our time together forged strong bonds of friendship amidst the challenging circumstances.

The Oath Keepers, including Ken, fell victim to FBI moles, entrapment schemes, and paid informants, leading to their portrayal as a far-right, anti-government militia. However, upon examining the evidence, it becomes apparent that their presence in DC was primarily to provide security for various events and VIPs, including Dr. Simone Gold.

While Ken was incarcerated, his wife Angel took charge of their household, starting a custom embroidery business called Angel’s Patriot Battle. Her advocacy within the January 6 community helped grow the business and establish a significant social media presence on X (formerly Twitter).

Recently released from prison and completing his mandatory halfway house stay, Ken has begun speaking out about the DOJ’s alleged use of evidence against him and his fellow Oath Keepers. His testimony contradicts the narratives of Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn, who gained popularity among Democrats for his account of the events.

Despite Ken’s efforts to shed light on the mischaracterization of the Oath Keepers’ actions, his release conditions prohibit him from using social media. Angel, however, had been actively using her platform to defend her husband and challenge Dunn’s accounts until her recent suspension from X without explanation.

Angel’s attempts to appeal the suspension have gone unanswered, leaving her without access to her 35,000 followers and severely impacting her business. The January 6 community speculates that her account may have been targeted due to her criticism of Harry Dunn, coinciding with the release of a documentary about him.

The sudden silencing of a political prisoner’s spouse raises concerns among January 6 advocates about potential censorship on X, which many had considered a bastion of free speech. The Harrelson family now faces financial challenges due to the loss of Angel’s social media platform, which was crucial for promoting her business.

For those interested in supporting the Harrelsons, Angel maintains a fundraising page documenting Ken’s journey since 2021. Additionally, her business, Angel’s Patriot Battle, continues to fulfill orders for embroidered clothing and patches, despite the recent setbacks.

In the near future, I plan to revisit the Oath Keepers’ January 6 case, aiming to demonstrate that the group was not planning any activities but instead became a scapegoat like many others present at the Capitol that day.
