A former Tennessee educator has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offenses involving minors, including the rape of a 12-year-old student who fathered her child.
Alissa McCommon, previously a fourth-grade teacher, entered guilty pleas to eleven felony charges, including child rape, statutory rape by an authority figure, sexual exploitation of minors through electronic means, and solicitation of a minor.

Circuit Court Judge Blake Neill handed down the concurrent 25-year sentence without the possibility of parole. The ruling also requires McCommon to register as a violent sex offender in Tennessee, maintain lifelong community supervision, and cease all contact with the victims.
The investigation revealed that McCommon initially established connections with students through video gaming and later moved their communications to mobile social media platforms. Law enforcement identified 21 potential victims between the ages of 12 and 17 during their seven-month probe, with five former students ultimately testifying against her.
Prosecutors presented evidence showing McCommon contacted one 12-year-old victim approximately 200 times and shared inappropriate images via Snapchat. DNA testing confirmed this same victim fathered her child, leading the judge to prohibit McCommon from having any contact with the infant.
The case took a darker turn when it was revealed that McCommon had threatened self-harm if the young victim ended their relationship. She had also manipulated her way into the victims’ families’ trust, with one mother revealing during court proceedings that she had welcomed McCommon into her home as family.
“I loved you like family, opened my doors to you. You used our friendship to hurt me and the people I love in this world, took innocence from my son before puberty, took what was supposed to be a great experience and tainted it. Your mind is sick and twisted for looking at a child and being turned on,” the victim’s mother stated in court.

The mother concluded with, “The innocent child will be loved and raised without your influence. There’s no amount of time they can give you that will equal what God will give you. You will burn in hell.”
The Covington Police Department’s investigation began following allegations that McCommon had sexually assaulted a boy at her residence in 2021. She later acknowledged inappropriate communications with former students while teaching at Charger Academy in Covington, leading to her suspension without pay in August 2023. As a result of her convictions, McCommon’s teaching license has been permanently revoked.
