Thousands Of Protesters Expected To Show At The DNC And Calling For A Cease Fire

As the site of this week’s Democratic National Convention (DNC), Chicago is in for an onslaught of protests against Israel. The city is expected to see about 100,000 demonstrators across multiple marches and rallies. 

The DNC-block concert was part of this call and many other demonstrations with focus on the DNC to follow, where Vice President Kamala Harris is set to be nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate. According to the New York Post, some of them will be unpermitted rallies.

The DNC will run Monday to Thursday — when Democrats are likely looking for a boost to coalesce around Harris, who entered the presidential race with Biden’s departure. Biden announced his withdrawal as he faced a wave of backlash from politicians and the media over an unusually weak and incoherent debate performance against former President Donald Trump.

The largest rally scheduled is the “March on the DNC 2024,” which organizers expect to draw around 30,000 people Monday and Thursday.

To pressure the Democratic administration over an ongoing conflict in Israel, Hatem Abudayyeh, chair of the U.S. Palestinian Community Network has resorted to calling Joe “Genocide Joe” and Kamala as “Killer Kamala.”

Abudayyeh, who also helps organize the protests, told The Washington Post: “It’s still about ending the genocide.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is torn over that latest Israel-Hamas war in Gaza — as well as with Iran and other Middle East groups. Demands from the party’s left have put political pressure on the administration to push for an end in Gaza that may stop short of destroying Hamas.
