TIME UNCOVERS Truth Around Harris Allowing Taxpayer-Funded Surgeries for Illegal Aliens

TIME Magazine recently corrected its post-debate coverage regarding a statement made by former President Donald Trump about Vice President Kamala Harris during their Tuesday night confrontation. The original report from the publication contained an error that has since been revised.

John Nolte, a columnist for Breitbart, pointed out that TIME initially reported:

“The former President … falsely claimed that Harris ‘wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison.’”

Trump’s comment was in reference to various policy shifts Harris has made since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. He stated, “She did things that nobody would ever think of. Now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison. This is a radical Left liberal that would do this.”

This statement from Trump followed a recent CNN report revealing a questionnaire Harris completed for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) during her 2020 presidential campaign. The questionnaire asked whether she would use executive authority to ensure that transgender and non-binary people, including those in prison and immigration detention, have access to comprehensive treatment for gender transition, including necessary surgical care. Harris answered, “Yes.”

Harris justified her position by stating, “It is important that transgender individuals who rely on the state for care receive the treatment they need, which includes access to treatment associated with gender transition.” She further added, “Transition treatment is a medical necessity, and I will direct all federal agencies responsible for providing essential medical care to deliver transition treatment.”

Following these revelations, TIME issued a correction:

“The original version of this story mischaracterized as false Donald Trump’s statement accusing Kamala Harris of supporting ‘transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison.’ As a presidential candidate in 2019, Harris filled out a questionnaire saying she supported taxpayer-funded gender transition treatment for detained immigrants.”

Despite this correction, TIME only removed the word “false” from their article, leaving the sentence to read: “The former President … claimed that Harris ‘wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison.’”

Critics argue that TIME’s use of the word “claimed” still casts doubt on the accuracy of Trump’s statement, despite the fact that Harris had explicitly stated her position in writing.
