President Trump defended national security adviser Mike Waltz on Tuesday, following revelations that Waltz had included The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief in discussions about potential military action against Houthi forces in Yemen.
During a brief conversation with NBC News, Trump expressed his continued support for Waltz, stating, “Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man.”

The controversy arose when it became known that Waltz had added Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal messaging group that included key administration officials Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Despite the unusual inclusion of a journalist in sensitive military discussions, Trump dismissed its significance, asserting that it had “no impact at all” on the March 15 airstrikes, which he characterized as “perfectly successful.”
Trump further downplayed the incident, describing it as “the only glitch in two months,” and adding that “it turned out not to be a serious one.”

While rumors circulated about Waltz’s potential dismissal after Goldberg disclosed his involvement in the group chat on Monday, the White House has maintained its support for the former Florida congressman, repeatedly expressing confidence in his capabilities.
