The Trump administration launched a concentrated offensive against California last week, implementing six distinct policies targeting the Democratic stronghold within a single day, as reported by the New York Times.
Initially, the administration held back its actions against Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that struck on January 7. Despite seeking federal assistance for the disaster, Newsom allocated $50 million to oppose Trump’s policies.

The cascade of federal actions began on Thursday, March 26, with the Education Department challenging California’s transgender student protection law. Shortly after, federal authorities revoked waivers that previously allowed undocumented students in California colleges to access certain federally funded programs.
The afternoon brought heightened scrutiny of California’s higher education institutions. The Justice Department initiated investigations into potential violations of Supreme Court rulings on race-based admissions at Stanford University and three University of California campuses. Simultaneously, the Health and Human Services Department commenced an investigation into similar discriminatory practices at a prominent California medical institution.

As the day progressed, further federal actions emerged. The day concluded with the Justice Department announcing an investigation into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department regarding alleged delays in processing concealed-carry permit applications.
