Trump Reportedly Makes HUGE Changes To Convention Speech To Address Assassination Attempt
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced he would change the Republican National Convention theme after a 20-year-old tried to assassinate him at his recent rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee on Sunday evening, just before the convention begins Monday amid national unrest after Saturday’s deadly events. During the assassination attempt, one Trump supporter was killed and two more were left hospitalized with critical injuries.
Trump initially told the Washington Examiner that his speech was going to focus on Joe Biden. But has since shared that “it’s going to be a whole different speech now.” The former president’s speech will now focus on unity and healing the nation.
“It is a chance to bring the country together. I was given that chance,” he said. “This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together. The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would’ve been two days ago.”
A person close to the former president also told The Washington Post it was almost as if Trump had gotten “spiritual” about his near-assassination.
“He thinks he was handed a gift from God. He can’t believe it,” said the person, who was granted anonymity to discuss sensitive conversations with the president.
The source also said convention planners are telling speakers to “dial it down, not dial it up” in the wake of the shooting.
