Hundreds Of Chinese Migrants Arrested In California

Several hundred illegal immigrants from China were arrested in a single day in California, amid ongoing debate over the crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border. The news also came after December 2023 saw the highest level of attempted migrant crossings in the nation’s history.

According to law enforcement, more than 200 Chinese nationals were arrested near San Diego after attempting to cross the border illegally this week.

The Monday arrests were part of an increasing flow of migrants from a number of nations, especially since the Biden administration announced the end of former President Donald Trump’s Title 42 asylum policy last year.

The apprehensions came after a sharp increase in attempted crossings by Chinese nationals in recent months.

Last year there were 37,000 Chinese nationals attempting to cross into the country. This has marked a sharp increase over previous years. In 2021 there was a total of 451 attempted crossings of Chinese nationals into the country.

In December 2023 there were more than 300,000 border encounters for the first time in American history. Last year also saw the highest level of attempted crossings yet recorded, crossing three million.

Since President Joe Biden took office in 2021, there have been more than six million illegal immigrants entering the country.

The increased flow of migrants has placed particular pressure on a number of communities, including New York City, Chicago and Denver. The increased flow of migrants have also corresponded with an increase in crime.

There has been increased criticism of the Biden administration over the border crisis. On Tuesday, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas by a single vote. House Republicans argued that Mayorkas had violated his oath amid the ongoing migrant flow.

Republicans argued that the open border situation increased the chances of a national security crisis, especially with migrants from nations hostile to the United States. Trump recently argued that the nation faced a high risk of a terrorist attack due to the border.
