Trump Touts Mental Abilities
Former President Donald Trump rebutted claims from former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) this week that he was declining mentally. Trump said that his mental faculties were excellent and that they were improving.
The former president touted his mental abilities during a campaign stop in Nevada this weekend. He said that he was “sharper now” than he was 20 years prior.
Trump added that he was “a lot sharper than her.” He said that he had passed two such cognitive tests.
“I aced it,” he said. “Twice.”
The former president said that he had called for a cognitive test in order to run for president because he would like to see “an intelligent person be president.”

Haley criticized Trump last week after the former president appeared to say that Haley was in charge of security at the Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 protest. Haley said that Trump had gotten her confused with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“All of it, because of lots of things, like Nikki Haley is in charge of security,” Trump had said. “We offered her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they want. They turned it down. They don’t want to talk about that. These are very dishonest people.”
Haley also criticized Trump a second time, claiming that he said that his court accuser E. Jean Carroll was running for office. She asked if he was “confused again.”
Haley said that instead of being in a “New York City courtroom,” she was “in South Carolina meeting with voters.”
Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung, said that the former president was referring to himself, and not Carroll in the video.
“Birdbrain is trying to grasp at straws to gaslight voters because she’s nothing more than a Democrat with America Last policies that will destroy the country,” Cheung said.
The controversy also comes as multiple polls show a large majority of Americans concerned with President Joe Biden’s age and health. About two-thirds or more of Americans have said that Biden is too old to run for a second term and lacks the mental and physical health necessary to be in the White House.
