Democrat Calls For Stronger Border Security

Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), who is facing reelection this year, announced his support for stronger border measures. The senator’s comments came amid the ongoing standoff between the Biden administration and the state of Texas regarding stopping the flow of illegal aliens into the country.

Tester wrote in local media that the Democrats should understand that “allowing anyone to enter the country without being properly vetted or going through a legal process undermines our national security.”

“We know that drug cartels are taking advantage of these gaps in our border security to traffic drugs and people across the border. That needs to stop,” wrote Tester.

The senator said that Congress should “prioritize a solution to the border crisis.” He argued that Congress should have remained in session during the Christmas recess to hammer out a deal.

Despite the senator’s comments, an immigration and border security bill in the Senate appears to be stalled.

Tester is not the only Democrat to express their concern over the ongoing border issues. New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has called upon the Biden administration to act more decisively after his city saw an influx of more than 150,000 illegal aliens in the past two years.

Furthermore, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has repeatedly called for stronger border measures. While the senator said that he supports immigration to the country, he also said that an open border is dangerous.

“I don’t understand why it’s controversial to say we need a secure border. We want to provide the American dream for any migrant, but it seems very difficult when you have 300,000 people showing up at our border to do that,” Fetterman said in a recent interview.

The senator’s comments came after federal law enforcement revealed that more than 300,000 illegal immigrants crossed into the country in December, the highest total on measure. Furthermore, more than two million migrants entered into the country in 2023, which is also a record.
