Soros Leading Texas Election Effort
Billionaire George Soros is supporting an effort to elect Democrats in the state of Texas on the verge of the 2024 election. The effort by the Hungarian-born billionaire came as his role in electing a number of left-wing prosecutors came under focus, as well as concern that demographic changes could turn Texas into a Democratic Party-voting state.
Soros has reportedly donated more than $3 million to different groups in the state since the start of 2023. Some of these funds went to the Texas Majority PAC, which aims to help Democrats get elected in the state.
The head of the organization told local press that it needed “millions of more dollars and hundreds of more full-time staff to do this.”
Overall, Soros or organizations linked to him donated all of the $2.25 million donated to the group.
🚨TEXAS ALERT🚨: It is vital that @GregAbbott_TX sanction any group taking money from George Soros. The billionaire is funding the Hamas terror group and any group receiving funds from him should be barred from operating within the state. https://t.co/ns6fDM0nFO pic.twitter.com/LqaPJrf6Ey

Soros has financed a number of other left-wing organizations, both in and out of the state. This includes money for the Texas Organizing Project, which bailed out a homicide suspect in the Lone Star State.
This is not the first time that Texas officials have taken notice of Soros’ efforts. In 2021, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) criticized the billionaire’s efforts to influence the state’s elections.
Texas is predominately represented by Republicans, including Gov. Greg Abbott (R), and large majorities in the state legislature. However, the share of residents voting for Democrats has increased significantly in recent years.
Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) challenged Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for his seat in 2018 and came surprisingly close to victory. In addition, in recent years, the result of presidential races has shown Texas becoming tighter and tighter.
Despite the concern and O’Rourke’s 2018 finish, there is cause for hope among Republicans. Latino voters have been increasingly casting ballots for Republicans and O’Rourke’s challenge to Abbott in last year’s election was not close. However, Soros supported him in this race, as well.
Furthermore, the state has been one of the stalwart supporters of the Republican Party. Thousands of residents from other states have moved to Texas in recent years, often to escape higher taxes or regulations in states such as Illinois, California and New York.
